Credit Report for Craigslist Jobs?

I've applied to a few jobs on Craigslist (I might need a temporary job while I keep looking). Recently, a few places I've applied to responded via email asking for credit reports. I'm wondering if these are likely scams or if that's a legit thing that a bunch of companies do? Any additional insights and opinions on the topic would be greatly appreciated.

They are scams. I recall reading an article about it 6 - 10 months ago.

1) Don't feel like you need to justify yourself, a gig's a gig anybody who gives a shit where you got it's not worth acknowledgment....this leads into...

2) Since Craigslist is such an easy access venue, it attracts a ton of spammers who are mostly interested in getting you to apply for whatever in exchange for your email address.

3) Nothing wrong with a company asking for your credit report...after they have met you, interviewed you and shown that they are on the level...if none of this makes sense...I propose:

4) What's you first and last name, social security number, date of birth and atm pin?

Haha! Thanks guys, you basically reinforced what I already believed. I'm tempted to email them back and say I'm willing to interview but not willing to provide a credit report. Would you guys go that route? Or just dismiss them altogether and not even reply to the email?
