Criteria and Timeframe for SA Internship

I recently started my first industry internship (its in PE, not sure if that is considered "1st internship"); I was led to believe it was a bona fide summer internship that started early, but now I see that is really not the case.

1) Is it too late to get a banking internship for the upcoming summer? I'm specifically asking about summer analyst (i.e., not graduating prior to the following summer)

2) What qualifies as a banking internship? Does it have to be a bb? Would private equity work count?
-maybe a better question is: does it have to be an official "summer analyst position?

Another summer option I have is to work on a startup I've been involved with for a long time that has recently launched. Assuming it's too late to get an SA position for this summer, how would working on a startup full-time help me get a banking internship next summer? Or would it be more beneficial to keep working at the PE place, or obtain another not-quite-banking position, e.g. operational stuff at a portfolio company.

Really appreciate all responses.
