David Rubenstein U. of Maryland Speech

I think U of Maryland Class of 2010 got a great call in this presentation by CG's Co-Founder (it is 1 hr. long).

1. How you can overcome certain disadvantages.
2. You can try many things before age 30 (like public service in his case), but
3. There is a "bio clock" for entrepreneurs (not unlike women childbearing) from 28-37.

If you're getting kicked out of town, tell everybody you lead a parade

4. CG- Started with $5 MM, came up with the idea of having multiple funds, also,
5. Globalized the business (US now accounts for only 22% of global GDP)
6. Best employees: smart, but not geniuses, who like to be a principal
7. Getting new funds of the ground is fairly difficult now
8. RE: [Billionare's] Pledge:
A lot of people should give away their money earlier [than at the time of their death]
.
9. Best deal: China Pacific Life 720 MM -->6.5 Bn.
10. CG strongpoints: fiduciary mindset, "One Carlyle" common culture of support, spreading the wealth thoughout the organization, high ethics.

and more... Worth watching.
