Disclosing a criminal charge (misdemeanor) during recruiting
Hi all, just wanted to start this off by saying I'm speaking to a lawyer this week but I just wanted some advice from people in finance.
Last week, I was driving a family member's car and got hit on the way to my destination when someone swerved into my lane. Everything is fine on that front but as a consequence of filing a police report I've been hit with a misdemeanor charge because apparently this family member's car's registration was suspended due to an unpaid fine for having a 1 month lapse in insurance (they are now covered). In New York State, the operator, not the owner, of the vehicle gets charged for driving a car with suspended registration (pretty f*cked up imo).
Now, obviously any reasonable person should be able to recognize that this is in no way my fault, but do I have an obligation to report this during recruiting? My court date is in November and thus I have obviously not been convicted of anything. Additionally, even though a misdemeanor is a criminal charge it's not like I assaulted anyone or hurt anyone in any way.
How do I navigate this with respect to job offers and recruiting? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
