Do I have what it takes?

I am a first year student from London attending Neoma Business School in Paris. I intend to complete my GBBA and then go back to England to do a MSc in Financial Analysis. Hopefully at London Business School or somewhere similar.

I have a GPA of roughly 3.75 out of 4.0, obviously this can change but to be honest I’m only going to be studying harder so I’d hope not. My CV is relatively decked out work experience wise, however I am yet to have experience interning in a finance related position. My degree requires 3 months of internships to be carried out every year, resulting in a years worth by the end of the course. Hopefully by then I will have secured a couple strong internships although it is proving quite hard as a first year to find one ‘good enough’ for me.

Is Neoma Business School recognisable to London banks or more so French ones? I know it is not an absolute target however it was ranked the 8th best business school in France by L’étudiant this year.

To add a bit more substance to my CV (ie world renown names to English employers) would it be prudent to take a couple online courses from say HEC for example or INSEAD? I already know the majority of information on these courses supplied by the top target business schools although I feel as if just having the certificate from a big name may help.

Would it also be of benefit to attempt my CFA level 1 over the next year? I’ve heard many people say it isn’t worth the time which has put me on the fence.

Thanks for taking the time to read my concerns and any advise is much appreciated!

Appreciate the reply although not the tone. It may be laughable for you to just take the CFA level one but who realistically does all 3 while at university?

Neoma is considered a non-target in London. In France there are many other business schools ahead but you can have a shot at the big4.

Online or summer classes are useless and just a waste of money.

CFA is useless unless you are aiming for AM.

In your situation, I would study hard to get the equivalent of a 1st Class, nail the GMAT, and apply for top business schools either in London or continental Europe. I would try to get as much relevant work experience as possible as well while staying coherent. For example if your goal is IB, don't do an internship in marketing or supply chain at a large group. Much better to do one at a no name M&A boutique

Thank you for going into so much detail this is exactly what I was after. Most of my assumptions were correct although apparently not CFA wise haha. Would you say it is worth attempting to move to a proper target school like ESSEC as I’m pretty sure I can transfer my credits or should I just stick out Neoma in hopes of getting onto a strong masters course. Quite frankly I don’t know what they are searching for and I’m having second thoughts about whether Neoma can take me to where I want to be.

If you can transfer to ESSEC it would be great. However note that it is not that strong in the UK (ESCP has more alumni in the city)
