Do I need headhunters for IB lateral?
Graduated in May and work at a merchant bank in Denver/Raleigh/Charlotte. The firm is a LMM and does investments in PE and VC and mostly advises family-owned businesses that are our clients as well, all in the LMM space sub $100 million deal.
I have been networking to break into traditional investment banking and am not sure what to do. I have two deal experience(<100M) and a bunch of investment due diligence experience from both PE and VC minority investment, but I can't seem to get an interview. Might be the fact that I have been working for less than 6 months, but also wondering, do I go find a recruiter or headhunter for investment banking, and which ones do you recommend?
I know Dartmouth Partners is one. I reached out to someone there, but they didn't even bother replying. I am doing the traditional cold email as well, but it's been dead silent or really hard.
Man this is a tough market. Going from LMM to BB in this market is next to impossible. This would’ve been possible in 2021 but we need to be realistic here. Ride it out at your current shop, get some good experience and try later. You got this!
