Don’t cold email until December?

I was thinking of not doing any cold emailing (to alumni, so I guess lukewarm email?) until a few days into December.

My thought is that with this weekend, short Thanksgiving week, then everyone catching up from emails the first few days back, the email would just get lost in the pile. Thoughts?

Also, any general timing advice and tips for emailing for networking/informational interviews would be appreciated.

I think it'd be good if you wait until January next year. People are probably going to be in major holiday mood with Christmas and New Year coming up so it might be hard to set up a meeting during this period and you don't want to come across as too desperate if you keep emailing them when it's hard to set up meetings.

Hmm I thought about skipping this week but not to the point of skipping entire months yet. But I never celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas (not American not Christian) so I guess my mindset's different. The whole major holiday mood thing raises a good point.

I'd learned to binge drink every Friday when I was 12 and always shared the whiskey with either my mates from school or with my dad over football (like, soccer) so I think Americans are the ones missing out haha

Everyone has the same thought; don't follow the herd and send it Monday morning on a short week. You can always include "Hope you enjoy the thanksgiving holidays!" in there as well.

I had the same questions before I got into IB. Now, I usually try to respond as timely as possible. One tip I would say is to think of the most random times to cold email someone (this works better for cold-calling actually).

Interesting thought on sending an email at off hours.

I always get self-conscious if I'm up in the middle of the night and think twice about sending LinkedIn connection requests. Or do most people not get emails from LinkedIn saying a request has been sent?

Not sure about LinkedIn email notification. I would say some people can get caught up over sending the email, but I would say not to worry to much about it. Keep reaching out to people and be genuine about reaching out.
