Don't forget thank you notes!
Posting anonymously for obvious reasons. I'm senior level in RE development & acquisitions and over the years I have had a number of junior folks reaching out to me on linked in or through contacts for advice and informational interviews. I've been surprised that more often than not the individuals DO NOT follow up with a thank you note. It could mean the difference between a job or not, and future advice or not. A lack of a thank you note for free advice also makes me skeptical that you'd treat clients with the deference they want to see. Appreciation goes a long way and really make you stand out from the crowd - if someone gives you a half hour of their (very expensive and very limited) time to give you career advice or a foot in the door, find 5 minutes to write a brief note of thanks.
