Down bad for career advice

Hi all,

Just wrapped up my first year in IB in a Tier 1 city in a bulge bracket team. Did on cycle and landed a pretty good MM HC PE offer that starts in 2027 to my hometown (tier 2/3 city, lots of tech but not much finance).

The reason I initially accepted was because my (now) ex, but we recently broke up. I have a few friends in my hometown but most of my closer friends are currently in the same city I’m in rn.

If I move back:
pros: No income tax, great first year sign on/base/bonus, family, cheaper rent, better hours than banking, I like the team

Cons: losing out on potential career options down the line (I find HC interesting but not my industry preference), not many friends, bumping into my ex since this city is tiny, weather sucks

If I stay:
Pros: more opportunity (but probably won’t do PE), have great friends / support system, amazing weather, “better” dating pool

Cons: expensive (longer til I’ll feel stable), more intense work culture

Would appreciate any advice / guidance!
