emailing question

I'm an underclassman and so I'm sending out emails for unpaid internships. I've been putting "Company name - Unpaid Summer Internship" for the email subject line but have been told this may look a bit too desperate. I didn't think it would matter that much, but does anyone else have any opinion on it?
thanks for your help

I get the impression that if you offer to work for free up front straight away, it suggests that you don't have any skills to offer. Or at least that's what I've been told. I have found saying "School X Student" and then having some type of message, and at the end of your conversation bringing up the topic of an internship, works best.

Instead of typing "Unpaid Summer Internship" put simply "Summer Internship". Then in the body of your message convey to them that you have the necessary skills but would like to learn more. By offering your services for free, some may think you are truly dedicated to the work. Good Luck.
