Entry Level Offer Negotiation Strategy

Hi Everyone,

Happy Thanksgiving - I got a job offer from company A and they offered a slighly below market pay, but it's a great company to work for nonetheless. I am meant to give a response this upcoming week.

Additionally this upcoming week, I have an interview with company B that according to GlassDoor pays a higher salary and it would be fair to conclude that company B is more prestigious.

So consdiering those details, I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on how to go about negotiating Company A's offer. Of course I don't know until after the interview whether or not Company B will offer, which is why I hesitate to bring up Company B to negotiate with Company A. For what it's worth, the people at company A are awesome.

Let me know what you think my friends

If you haven't already read it, I would read this book: https://www.amazon.com/Negotiation-Genius-Obstacles-Brilliant-Bargainin…

It has all the strategies you need for negotiating a job offer. Really helped me out in knowing how to conduct myself in negotiations in job interviews.

In this particular situation, I would do some research on what living expenses are, as well as other factors that you think are good reasons that would justify asking for an X increase in salary. If you do not feel comfortable negotiating this way, then I would simply ask them if there is any way that they might be able to give you a little more, because you have high living expenses and other circumstances that require a certain salary, etc. If these people are as great as you say they are, they shouldn't have too much of a problem giving you a small increase. If they do, you might want to think some more about their offer before accepting it.
