Equities intern Assessment Centre
Hi all!
I've just received an Assessment Centre invitation from a bank for summer intern position at the Equities Department (due next week). I actually applied for a different department so I am not really familiar with interviews typical of S&T. Would anyone please give me some insights in Equities?
What I understand from this forum is that sales attract volumes by developing relationship with the buyside, to earn a commission, while traders do their best to ensure they are buying low and selling high to guarantee a spread, aka "flow trading". Meanwhile traders also take speculative positions on behalf of the bank's account, aka "proprietary trading" to earn a profit as well. Research provides intellectual information for both traders and salespeople so they have ideas to trade and sell respectively.
I also understand that I've got to read up on the current markets and have a few stocks in mind to pitch. What else should I get prepared with? I am actually more inclined to sales as I am not a sort of math whiz kid. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
