Exit from Finance
For folks who left traditional finance (IB/PE/HF etc):
1) what job/career did you pursue after?
2) do you regret your decision at all?
I moved from IB to startups. My first experience wasn’t ideal culturally, but my current role has been great. Better WLB and greater agency at work made me much happier vs. IB, despite materially lower cash comp.
I’ve seen folks rejoin finance after leaving, so I’m curious about others' experiences. Did it work out as you hoped? Lessons learned?

What role did you pick up, could I please ask? How selective were you with roles/companies? Interested in a similar move myself
I left for a finance role at an earlier stage company. I was selective enough but wasn’t waiting for the perfect opportunity. I had a few criteria for my next roles: 1) cash comp covers my expense 2) substantially better WLB (60hrs week) 3) fast growing company 4) related to finance either in content or function 5) more agency than banking associates / VP
yes. Check history. I personally had a horrible WLB at a startup and in corp dev and other industries aimed at giving you a better WLB for 1/3 of the pay. Would only suggest leaving banking/buyside to my absolute worst enemy.
