Finding out you've failed a background check

I raised my GPA significantly on the app for my internship, and there's not really any question that if i'm found out my offer will be retracted. So my question is how will i find out i've been caught out/failed the background check? Will the check company phone/email me to say 'you wrote this on your form' but we've contacted x person and they've said this - can you clear it up at all?'. Or will they just report straight back to my internship company, and that company contact me? My check started last Wednesday when they contacted me to clarify some gaps, how long do until i can start to think i've been lucky and passed the check?

Thanks

I would say never.

Don't post false gpas. The most I have ever seen some one push their cumulative gpa was .02, which is seriously not THAT significant.

No. You are in the clear after you've left your first firm and stop putting your GPA on your resume or start using an honest GPA.

Until then, the conversation could come up any time you get a call from HR or you get called into your manager's office. They may not necessarily spot it right away, but it could easily come up later. Most likely, there's some sort of clearance process that will happen shortly before or during the first few days of the beginning of the internship where they'll review your transcript, compare your listed GPA to your actual GPA, and pull the offer if it they think you lied. Of course, it can always be reviewed later- so any time you get called into your manager's office is theoretically a time it could come up and you could be asked to pack everything up. If you are an SA, it will most likely get back to campus recruiting in the fall.

A resume is a marketing document. It's OK to round, optimize your reporting, or even forget to update it for a semester or so. Bald-faced lying, however, is a great way to get yourself fired and kicked out of the industry. CC: Marilee Jones

You can think you are lucky when you get the contract for the role. If the employer follows a structured process it will only issue this when you have passed the check. After that point neither the background checking company nor your employer will inquire further - for the time being.

After that, follow the advice given in the other thread you started.

You might not get blacklisted from every reputable firm in the world, but I wouldn't count on that.
