Follow up with a MD

I just had an informational interview over the phone with a MD from a BB in NYC. He is an alumnus from my school (non-target) and seemed like a pretty laid back guy (said f@ck alot so he's gotta be cool, right?) and willing to help. On his bank's career page, there is a listing for a position available as a full time analyst. My question is a two (or four) parter: 1) Is there any merit to this posting, or is it laughable that I think those are legit? and 2) Is it rude to bring this to his attention in a follow up email? If not, then how do I? I know recruiting has long been over, but I also know that spots do open up at the last minute. Let me know if this is all just wishful thinking or something worth pursuing.
