From Assistant PM to Operations?

Hey guys,

I need some advise here as I'm not sure about my next career move.

I'm currently working at one of the Swiss BB Banks in Asset Management as an Assistant PM. I have 3 years experience by now and as a Assistsnt PM most of my tasks are more on the operational side of the business such as trading, reporting, maintenance of model portfolios, publishing market updates to clients as well as maintaining the internal platform to maintain portfolios. Realistically to get performance generating responsibility would take me another 5 years here.

I now got an offer to join the other BB Swiss Bank as an Operations Analyst with a higher rank (Associate) as well as better pay (+15%). However this job seems very back office like and seems to be even more far from the PM and income generating side. Some of the tasks are quite similar in this job but 1st it is not labeled very sexy and 2nd organization wise it is not under the AM division but more at the support/operations division.

My worry now is, accepting this offer will make me stuck on the operations side where it will become more and more difficult to get away the longer I stay.

Ultimately I want to become a PM or something similar on the investment side. I'm currently preparing for the level 3 CFA exam and saving up for an MBA.

What are your thoughts on this? Are my worries justified ? Or should I just go for the higher paying job as things will change once i have the CFA designation and an mba anyways?
