From CPA to finance industry?
Hi there,
I am a recent accounting graduate located in Canada and have gotten a job a mid size accounting firm starting in September 2015. While I was excited to get my first real job, I want to break into the finance industry in Canada. I was wondering if it would be beneficial for me to do my CPA and work through my 3 year contract at the mid size firm? I was also considering doing level 1 of the exams, would I be able to get a job in the finance industry (starting as an analyst hopefully making my way towards investment banking; want to get my feet wet and work my way up)?
If this is not the best option for me, what would be some other ways to build my resume to better sell myself as a potential employee for a bank? I could go back and do another semester of university and gain another concentration in finance, but I feel that this is not worth the time cost and have grown thin on funds at the moment. Some other background information of information is that I have represented my university at case competitions and have a 3.45 GPA.
