FT recruiting coming from SA

A little confused on the overall nuances/etiquette of FT recruiting coming from a target school. When recruiting for my SA, all the banks that came down had school specific alumni that we would network with, they select us to interview, and eventually get the offer. If i failed to land an interview through networking with these school alum, is it worthless to reach out to them in the middle of the summer of my SA stint? Feel like alumni are the first group of people i would reach out, especially for FT recruiting but not sure if it is awkward if they did not pass you through interviews for SA. obviously assuming you aren't a weird person or anything but just didn't get selected.
