its generally harder than getting in through a target undergrad (maybe w/ exception of UofT msf), and it will also be more challenging for you as an international student. MSF is not a guarantee by any means - dont make the mistake of thinking that you are equivalent to undergrads at mcgill or say ivey and can put the same effort as them - you need to do more.

couple of reasons, for this.

  1. the quality of undergrad kids from targets (e.g, Ivey, queens) is clearly superior than those at msf programs in Canada, so competition is already tough. less kids from targets are also pursuing spots in the US, which adds to those gunning for the same spots

  2. the IB scene in Canada is smaller than US/UK, so spots are more limited. combined with the fact that McGill tends to place majority in Montreal (where spots are already limited), competition for these spots will be intense as you are competing against undergrads at targets like HEC and McGill. You will NEED to stand out. recruiting in Toronto offices will be even more challenging, and you'll need to stand out even more

  3. as an international student, all else equal, you are at a disadvantage. if im not mistaken, a good number of those at mcgill are at least bilingual (with french being one of those), so these people will automatically get a slight advantage at montreal offices (factoring in cultural fit as well). the ability to fit with your desired banks will be crucially important for you, so adjustments will probably be necessary for you if its your first time in Canada (i,e go to bars and get with the lingo).

with that being said, it's still definitely possible and have you have a decent chance of doing so - but it's REALLY important to differentiate yourself from the others, for reasons mentioned above. you can do this by networking (you need to) and getting into selective student funds, among others. dont be complacent as ive seen many who do a msc in ivey thinking that they're par with ivey HBA..
