Going overseas
What's the best way to get a job overseas (Europe, Japan, Dubai... maybe Russia) from the U.S.? I'm looking for IB, S&T, Hedge Funds, etc, will graduate this december, and will take both the L1 CFA and CAIA this summer.
Counting my time in the military and study abroads, I've lived 5.5 of the last 8 years overseas, and I love it. It doesn't really matter where I go... I was really disappointed when I first learned I would be stationed in Japan, but ended up absolutely loving the time I spent there. Though, I'm not sure I'd like to go to Africa or Middle East (other than Dubai).
Are there any financial career fairs in London, Sydney, or Tokyo that I can hit up this summer/fall?
Unfortunately I'm not fluent in any other languages, except for minimal knowledge of Russian and Spanish (elementary level).
Any other advice?
Better do your research. In Dubai for example, the Brits have control over everything, it can get very political in the office. They are intimidated by American talent. The owners- usually the Arabs dont really participate much and dont really care as long as their firm is making money. Be very careful when considering working with the British Retards.
British retards! dont be so ignorant.
Definately worth looking into
Well, I will probably do a summer internship at the DIFC in Dubai this summer....so I may be able to tell you then whether that stuff about the Brits is true!:))) However, my local friend in Dubai told me once that there is an unofficial pay scale in Dubai depending on your passport and that apparently having a British passport is the best, so there may be some truth to this.
In general, in Dubai you are fine just speaking English from my experience, especially if you work at the international banks I presume. However, getting a good job in Dubai is not that easy as it sometimes appears, a lot depends on connections.
