GPA - At 2.7. senior finance major
Ok, Im a senior finance major with a pretty rocking resume. Everything is great about it (internships at IB firm and Wealth MGMT firm) except one thing... my GPA. I did not include it because no lie it's pretty shitty. I had awful grades freshman and fall sophomore year due to pledging and getting all into the whole fraternity/party atmosphere. I finally had a wake up moment when I couldn't sleep and decided that I had to get my shit together. My cumulative GPA is a 2.7 (laugh all you want, I do too). Hold on though, since my waking up moment I have had a 3.3 GPA while taking strictly finance and business mgmt classes, no blowoff freshman or easy A classes. Sadly I took and blew off all of those in my incoherent first 2 years. But what I am getting at is this, my GPA doesn't strictly reflect what kind of student I am now. Would it be wise to just leave it off of my resume or slap that bitch on there and then tell the recruiters or interviewers my story.
use your internship contacts to network and bypass anything that gpa would matter for
Yes, you should network, but I don't think you should mention your 3.3 GPA either, for IB that's still below average. But if you have contacts, they could potentially help you out.
You may also want to watch how you come across to recruiters... maybe you're just casual because you're posting on a forum, but saying that you have a "rocking" resume yet you have a low GPA to me signals a red flag. Your resume is likely not as good as you think, as there is almost always a lot of tweaking that can be done. Maybe I'm wrong, but either way, probably best not to be putting out the overconfident vibe... be confident and tell your story to show that you are a different person now than you were before, but don't be overconfident because we can see through that and if you get on an interviewer's bad side they can make 30 minutes pretty brutal. If your major GPA is better, I would put that on there.
you're only a 3.3 student now anyway...thats still not high enough...
i doubt your resume is "rocking" whatsoever.
Cut him some slack. We all make mistakes. If he's not a troll, he's obviously not going for or getting an ib position. That much is pretty clear. Odds are, he's just looking for any job that will take him and pay him enough to cover his preppy clothes and bar tabs for the weekend.
It makes me laugh when people dog on someone for being in a fraternity. When did it become bad to meet good looking girls, drink, and have a good time in college? One thing I have never understood...
Leave it off, ^troll
You forget that you already got into an IB and a wealth mgmt firm as an intern. I assume that you didn't work in the FO with your gpa. So you are asking how you can break into FO with BO intern experience and dubious grades?
