Hedge Fund IT Jobs?

I am very interested in joining a hedge fund for my second job in my IT career. I interviewed for one Hedge fund right out of college for an internship, but didn't get it. I have more of a hardware and software (but not coding) background. Right now, For little over a year I have been working for a non-profit charity that is ten miles from NYC, doing basic field technician work but would love to get into server, networking, and administrator roles.

Unfortunately, I see Hedge Funds looking for IT guys are usually far and few between, or maybe I am just looking in the wrong places. Partially why I signed up here. I am in no rush to leave my very stable position here. This is just something I would like to see myself doing 3-4 years from now.

I just have a few questions if anybody would like to help me out here. How do Hedge Funds usually do IT work? Do they have an in-house guy or do they use consultants from outside companies? If so, should I be trying to get into one of those consulting companies? Which ones?

Would I need any other qualifications other than a Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems and 2-5 years experience as your basic technician? Would certifications make me stand out more?
