Help! Big 4 to Finance Transaition

Hello all,

I wanted to ask everyone for advice on how I should prepare myself to transition my career from accounting to financial field.

Here is my brief background. I am currently a first year associate in one of the Big4 audit practice. I had one year experience in finance(accounting) department at Deutsche Bank and 2 year military experience. Despite my career path, I've always wanted become a financier utilizing my strong accounting background.

Which career in Finance world would appreciate my accounting knowledge? What I can think of is M&A, PE, and Asset Management(?).

Next question would be How I can get those job positions? I've thought about pursuing MBA after 2-3 years experience in Big4. But do you all think this would be the best way? I am 27 years old now. So, I feel I am not young enough to keep trying new things and stay as first year staff...

I would love to hear some good advice or great success story that could encourage me :)

Please help!

While you are a bit older, your military experience gives you an attractive way around that problem and will help you with B school.

Your best bet coming out of audit to break into IB or PE will be by attending a top B school - IB and PE aren't terribly receptive to a straight move from audit - you'll need the B school break to get you in front of recruiters again and take the focus off of audit and put it on a top 10-15 program for IB.
