Help, too late? Tapping into IBD FT analyst class

Hi guys,

I am a new subscriber, but was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback, advice, or suggestions. I am currently a senior expecting to graduate this June from a target university. I am interning at a boutique investment bank part-time (have been responsible for constructing industry reports for my MD for the most part and took part in consolidating a sell side M&A pitch book, but did not do the valuations). Nonetheless, I do understand it is WAY past the typical recruitment cycles within IBD or any industry for that matter, but was wondering if anyone had suggestions in what I can do to hopefully tap into the 2011 analyst class. I have had final interviews with a couple top MM firms, but none have gone through. I have also connected with alumni, but have had no success (but this was about 3 months ago.. I can try contacting them again?). I am constantly on the Careers Site on target investment banks and my respective school career job board. Currently, I am not going to lie a bit anxious.

Should I continue my internship at the bank I am currently with over the summer and look into 2012 Fall Recruitment? Or should I go into a field that I can hopefully transfer such experience into the banking arena? Or is there any other avenues I haven't tapped into?

Any help would be great!

Thanks

It's going to be very very very hard at any of the banks that have structured processes like the BBs. Most of them will have their new Analyst classes starting in around 2-3 weeks so there's no way they could get you in that quickly.

Focus on boutiques and smaller places.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep at it.

Any other advice? I feel like I have done everything I can do? I have reached out to smaller boutique banks (working from a list of around 50-75 ibanks and respectively emailing, applying, etc. but no luck thus far).

As buybuybuy above said, I wouldn't quit what you have now if I were you.

I'm assuming your university is in the US--but any inclination to apply to an overseas office? For a lot of boutiques, and even for some BBs, the application process is a TINY bit more flexible. Of course there's still an 'official' process, but from what I've seen they also do make exceptions or have off-season hiring to accommodate non-local students.

Whether or not you want to considering relocating probably depends on your background, your circumstance, language capabilities etc, as well as how desperate you are for an FT in IBD this season...

Good luck.

No strings attached.
