Hey Washington, D.C., that you?

Hi,

Can anyone suggest any solid, well-reputed, programs with an eye toward finance in BigBanking, in or around Washington, D.C.? Similarly, can you recommend work or networking venues near D.C.?

I am a post-grad near D.C. and unfortunately have an ailing parent whom I would like to be near for at least the immediate future. (Probably before relocating to New York ideally.)

Any or all of the above...?

I think I will take a summer course online and then in fall study (runs from mid-July to end October) for the CFA exam level 1 with prep course in the evenings.

Perhaps you or someone can recommend where I should look for I-banking work in or around D.C.?

Only program that places regularly into banking in the DC area is Georgetown, maybe Maryland.

For banks there's a number of places: Jefferies, FBR, KippsDeSanto to name a few. Believe HL has an office there as well and heard JPM is opening an office. These are IB.

I read somewhere that Georgetown was derided, "pay your fee get your grade." Is that your impression?

Mogwai, you remind me of music I got a whiff of ~15 yrs ago. .. I'm a recent refugee from med school. I am thinking of taking a June-September pre-mba course online for graded credit and then prepping for CFA I administration in December at night July to October. I've got a list of oh, 40 or so books on banking I want to dig into. (Yeah, right.) Only thing that might be amiss now is the networking. Thoughts? Think I could get work at one of those banks while I pursue the rest?
