How do you keep your cool when you really want a job?

I’ve been fortunate enough to interview for a couple of my dream jobs over the past 12 months. It’s typically a long drawn out process with several rounds of conversations and skill tests.

But then I get to the final interviews where it’s just a casual “get to know you” type chat with senior leaders and I get dinged.

My only guess is I seem too eager when meeting the senior folks, they don’t like this, and they ding me. There are no technical questions, so nothing to mess up there. Or maybe they have 5 candidates in that final round for 1 spot? I am not sure

How do you combat this? It’s hard to not have adrenaline pumping when a life changing job opportunity is in front of you

I tried for so long to get a job - failed to get any springs or summers, within space of a week in June I got 2 FT offers; my best ever performance in an interview was for the 2nd offer (which I took); why? because there was no pressure, I knew I had a job lined up. this mindset should be a piece of cake for you as you're currently an associate.. relax. yes, ofc, prepare for the interview with full focus & determination to get the role, but when the intv starts be relaxed in the knowledge you are fully equipped to deal with the interview and are the perfect candidate for the job.

good luck!

This one is obvious bro. I can tell you haven’t interviewed much, but here’s what most people do.

You get there a little early and talk to the receptionist. Ask if you can use the restroom really quick and thank her politely. Then, you destroy their bathroom. Just absolutely wreck it, poop on the walls, eat Indian food the night before (you know the drill), and make it loud. You should be grunting and sweating a bit. If there’s someone next to you, try to start a conversation between grunts. It’s about making your presence heard and bringing the fight to their court. Then, when you finally drop a dukey that belongs on law and order SVU, you head back to the lobby.

Nothing to be afraid of anymore you now own the place.

Getting an offer is like getting chicks - they smell desperation from a mile away.
