How does group placement work for FT hires?

Pretty much the title but I got an offer at a MM IB for fulltime recruiting and was wondering how the group placement process typically goes. There's really only 3 groups I want and I would be pretty disappointed with any other group. Do FT hires usually get their group choice or is it slim pickings? What are some tips to make sure I can try to squeeze myself into a group I really want to be in?
