How does lateraling in IB work?

I got an offer in a capital markets group at a lower-tier BB. I'm probably gonna take it right now because of the current job market, but I'm thinking a lateraling to another bank after one year, hopefully to a better group and a better financial hub.

How does one go about this? Would I just start applying to other banks after about 6-9 months at my current role? Are there specific job postings that are specifically looking for 2nd year analysts that have 1 year of experience somewhere else?

And if I am able to lateral, would I be treated like a 1st year analyst and have to start all over again? Or would I be treated like a legit 2nd year analyst, the same as others who originally started out at that bank/group?

Because I wouldn't want to lateral to another bank if I have to start from scratch all over again and wait 2-3 years to become an associate.
