How does networking benefit you when it comes time to apply for IB internships?
Hello Everyone,
So I will be a junior undergrad this year and am networking as much as I can before next summer. I just wanted to know that when it comes time to start applying, how will these networks help me?
Networking into an IB Summer Internship (Originally Posted: 10/22/2013)
I'm a sophomore from a non target with a 3.91 GPA, various leadership experiences. I attend networking events 2-4 times a month and got in touch with a couple of I Bankers and HRs, in addition to applying online. However, I still feel that I'm not doing enough to to cover my options. Any advice for a non- traditional student looking to break into IB? Thanks in advance!
How do you have 2 years of experience as a trader if you are still in school? I think that just reaching out to as many people as you can and building real relationships with a few is about as much as you can do as far as networking goes, in addition to what you're already doing by going to info sessions. The military has a pretty sweet network that you can tap in to, from what I've read on this site- make a concerted effort to reach out to ex-military in IB would be my best suggestion. Apply online for all banks you can, but also reach out to boutiques because that might be more realistic as a sophomore (that being said, I met someone who was doing GS/MS/JPM IBD this past summer as a sophomore).
notthehospitalER, thanks for the info. I worked for a small group through someone-that-knew-someone (right place at the right time) it was a good experience. As mentioned, I'm not the typical student... :) Would you recommend cold calling boutiques? Thanks again
Definitely can't hurt...
Will do, Thanks!
