How does taking an academic leave of absence affect recruiting?

I am considering taking a leave of absence next semester (target school junior year). I was wondering how it would affect my recruiting. Would it give me more time to do summer/off-cycle internships? I am an incoming PWM Summer Analyst at a BB and I am extremely grateful for the offer but I am more interested in trading and investing. I was considering asking to be moved or interviewed for another group. I recognize that this is bad etiquette but I am worried that I will be pigeonholed into PWM (since it will be the 2nd PWM internship on my resume). Thanks for your insight!
