How early to begin networking for FT

Hello all,

I know the FT the market will be challenging this next year so I want to do everything I can to get ahead

Post internship, I definitely want to move to a larger firm in nyc for FT is possible. Again, I fully expect headwinds given the market etc.

My question is: is it too early to begin networking? Just don’t want to spend tons of $ traveling to NYC if there’s little to no payoff at this time.

I’ve begun doing catch up calls with folks I built relationships with during internship recruiting etc. just nothing face to face.

For further context, my internship is in a different market than NYC so I have a narrow window to network in-person before I start. I’m on the east coast so travel isn’t inconvenient, just expensive.

Curious to get everyone’s thoughts. Thanks

Before you make any plans to come to NY, actually make sure the banks at which your connections work will be hiring full-time at all... Seems obvious but I'd stir the water a little bit and get this answer before committing financially to travel.
