How exactly do I network

This may seem a bit amateur, but after looking it up I still can’t seem to find a definitive answer on what it means to “network”. I read some post saying you just email alumni and ask to talk. But of course that’s a bit difficult currently and may have been difficult regardless because of the numerous locations of alumni around the world.

Also, it seems that my school although a top 10 school, doesn’t have many alumni who are partners at these firms. There are quite a few recent alumni currently working there as Well as alumni who previously worked there. My school does have on campus recruiting does that help?

So, what is exactly networking and how do I do It?

Thanks

Literally just use the search function in WSO and you'll have dozens of threads explaining the whole process from cold emailing to OCR.

In reference to your school - although it is certainly better to have some similarities with the people you network with, it is completely okay and still quite beneficial to cold email people who aren't from the same school as you. Just do some background research so you know what you're talking about.
