How much of an ass am I if I quit my unpaid internship in a subpar research firm on day 2 because I received an IB paid internship in a nice bank ?
How do I proceed to feel less guilt ?
unpaid internships are worthless.
I don’t think you would be an asshole at all. They would have picked a more qualified candidate over you (research firm) if they had one. They don’t care about you personally.
You don’t owe them anything.

Btw, to my point above...the research firm is valuing your labor at $0, the bank is valuing your labor at greater than zero. Who would you rather sell your labor to?
not an asshole...but also....don't tell them why you are leaving...also don't put it on your social media or linkedin....you don't want to burn bridges...just tell them that you can't continue the summer internship, and thank them for the opportunity.
they are not paying you, so you can do this with a phone call or an email...you don't even need to show up to quit a "job" that is not paying you.
