Hi Guys,
So I applied for a first year analyst position at BlackRock late (in early December). I attend a non-target with a 3.98 GPA and no major finance internships because I was always leading student organizations that required me to travel most of the summer. Anyways, I applied and my current status shows "Your application is currently on hold, and we will be in contact with you shortly to let you know the next stage of the recruitment process." Anyone have insight into what this exactly means?
Anyways, thinking this is not good, I contact my older sister for help since she just got married to a MD (Managing Director) at BlackRock. Just so you guys do not think she married him for money only, she is a different MD herself as she just became a Medical Doctor.
My sister's husband (was a non-target as well) reviewed my resume and liked what he saw and submitted a referral for me this morning. My questions is how much will this help me at this point in the recruiting process?

MD is pretty vague. What type of doctor is your sister? When you say she just became a doctor, you mean she just graduating from medical school? Is she in residency? What specialty?
How is my sister's career relevant lol, but my sister is OB/GYN and she finished residency in the spring of 2013 and is practicing after taking a few months of the plan/prepare for their wedding and get married.
It will help you get an interview. This is how most people in the industry get their interviews. After that though, from what I hear it is up to you to do well in the interview and prepare. Be sure to talk to the guy who referred you to ask what questions to prepare for. I think your GPA will be helpful in getting an interview.
Thanks, my concern was if he will be able to help get an interview this late into the recruiting process. Definitely going to keep preparing for this as hard as I have for other interviews I had and have upcoming.
