How much will a Managing Director Referral help at BlackRock?

Hi Guys,

So I applied for a first year analyst position at BlackRock late (in early December). I attend a non-target with a 3.98 GPA and no major finance internships because I was always leading student organizations that required me to travel most of the summer. Anyways, I applied and my current status shows "Your application is currently on hold, and we will be in contact with you shortly to let you know the next stage of the recruitment process." Anyone have insight into what this exactly means?

Anyways, thinking this is not good, I contact my older sister for help since she just got married to a MD (Managing Director) at BlackRock. Just so you guys do not think she married him for money only, she is a different MD herself as she just became a Medical Doctor.

My sister's husband (was a non-target as well) reviewed my resume and liked what he saw and submitted a referral for me this morning. My questions is how much will this help me at this point in the recruiting process?
