How strong is SMBC's lending side?
Hi, Thinking of breaking into SMBC's lending side like lev fin, but I read that a lot of Japanese banks don't present decent exit options. I know PE is kind of a far fetch from SMBC or similar banks.
I am trying to ultimately exit to private credit. What do you guys think of SMBC as a stepstone into that career path? Would it still need another lateral move to a more well-known bank to do so?
Thank you!
The Japanese bank have strong IG lending books but do not have the lev fin/sponsor books that would help you make such a move. Arguably would have a better time doing project finance at SMBC.
would you say an MM or LMM shop is somewhat doable? MF credit will def be a stretch for sure
