How to find jobs with WLB after one year?
Well I’m going to reach my one year mark soon and will be quitting but I’m struggling to actually find a job with WLB that I want to pursuit. Im just very confused on what to do next, as in do people just do corp dev/strategy. I honestly just want something close to 9-5pm where I can explore my own side hustles and have time for my own hobbies. Im just confused how people pinpointed what they wanted to interview for and which companies they actually wanted to work under.
Why not start by figuring out what industry you are interested in and go from there? I mean I’d think of it like a sales process start with a broad funnel and rapidly try and narrow down. Figure out the industry first, then do you like finance or not? If I loved it I’d look for finance heavy roles e.g. FP&A, Corp deve. If I didn’t I’d look more operational or strategy if it’s separate from deals. Then I’d try and figure out geography, which is less relevant with the rise of remote work.
Thanks! That’s the strategy I’m going to try to follow but I’m still trying to figure out if I like finance or if my group culture was just terrible that it made me hate finance. Ideally I’m attracted to a nice cushy culture place (tech also I currently work for a very strong tech group) but I always had a strong interest in healthcare even though I didn’t pursuit it during finance. Overall, I think I’m still stuck trying to decide if I want to stay in some type of finance role since I always genuinely enjoyed finance all throughout college/internships that weren’t banking. I think the main issue is that I came to realize that I value free time more and having predictability in my schedule which makes me happier than working in a industry where free time is rare which makes me feel like I should sacrifice what I find interesting for an industry that would be make me happier.
Feel free to PM me about healthcare.
I know its an old thread, but any updates since? I learned in my job I also share the same beliefs as you about freedom in my time. Appreciate if you can DM for tips!
Best way is to just apply broadly and start interviewing. See if a startup excites you, or if you enjoy working in a large company. Might take 10 interviews, but you'll find an area you're comfortable with.
FP&A, generic corporate finance analyst, investor relations, PWM, risk jobs, certain areas of real estate will all be pretty close to 9-5. Corp dev/strategy can be a crapshoot on hours, if you want a reliable 9-5 would not do that.
Find a new job first then quit - don't quit before you find a job.
