How to lateral to an asset manager

Hello, I am currently a second year analyst in an investments role of the WM arm of a BB. I like the investments oriented role/work, but I want to move into more of a traditional AM manager. Not looking for a Wellington, Fidelity or PIMCO but a smaller shop that does similar work. What steps/timeline should I have in mind. I have a very solid stock pitch from undergrad that I have been updating each quarterly and will take some time to draft another one.
