How to network from IB to PE

I am a second year analyst in a no name MM bank willing to move to the buy side. How should I proceed with networking with PE professionals working in funds that interest me? Because I feel that contacting people on LinkedIn with the following message is a bit awkward: ‘ currently working in M&A at ABC, my experience has sparked a keen interest in private equity and its potential as a future career path. Considering your role at XYZ, I was wondering if it would be possible to arrange a brief call in the upcoming days to discuss your background and current position? […] ‘.

How would you proceed in this situation?
