Hypothetically Speaking....

You've been working at a boutique for the summer (NY) and have about a week left. Over the course of the summer, you've also been playing on your VP's soccer team. In recent weeks, you find out from a teammate that his wife is the head of campus recruiting for a BB. This information is supplemental to an otherwise off-topic conversation, yet you wish to pursue it further.

What is your move? Knowing that this teammate is your VP's buddy, how do you diplomatically utilize the connection while not burning bridges at the office (your final review comes next week)?

Tell them you are interested in receiving formal analyst training at a Bulge Bracket but emphasize that you believe the quality of life is dramtically better working for a boutique bank. Suggest that after comparing the two experience, you would be better educated as to which way you wanted to go in your career. Do not miss out on this opportunity. These come up very rarely.

Mr. Determineddo you know if you'll be hired for full-time by the boutique?

I will get a formal response in a few weeks, but I was "informally" told this week that I should expect an offer. Informally: a.k.a after a long night of drinking with some coworkers the liquor began to voluntarily talk.
