I found a person willing to network, whats the next move?

I have a Polish background and out of curiosity, I looked for internships in the country of Poland. In this specific company, I was actually able to find something where I actually could qualify as just a freshman. It mentioned not requiring any professional experience and having a "can-do attitude". I applied formally through the company website but obviously that won't cut it. I started to reach out by email and I was able to get in contact with an employee who works in the department where the position is available. I sent a basic email expressing my interest but should I do next with the replied email? What should I know about networking at this point?
