I messed up big time

I messed up... I planned to do a lot of networking this summer having so much free time but like always it's September and I have barely done any. Now it is time to apply for jobs and I have no contacts, and with the current environment, I feel like my chances are slimmer than ever before. What can I do starting now to land a job for next summer? Obviously actually starting to network is key, but I am going into my third year and somewhat panicking since my internship this past summer got canceled.

Start by applying for unpaid remote internships at search funds. They’re basically small-scale, private equity, one-time acquisition investment vehicles that can give you great resume experience.

You Can apply in a website called searchfunder.com. Many people are looking for interns so this would be a great way to get some experience.

Increase your GPA by getting great grades over the next two years because you will learn more in classes and if you want to recruit for PE I think they still check your Gpa. Will also help for IB recruiting.

Start practicing your technical questions and reach out to regional boutiques to see if you can intern there during the school year. They may grill you with technicals so continue to study them and your “why IB” story often.

Finally, continue to network with alumni (even if it’s cold reach, don’t swear the no-responses) and absorb as much advice as you can.

This is my advice as what your timeline should look like as you pursue any openings for SA 2021 or FT 2022 given you said you’re a junior.

This is coming from someone who was in a similar position to you but has solid FT first round MM IB interview coming up (still waiting to hear from others).

Keep your head down, be humble and real to yourself about the process, continue to study and I think you can get it if you want.

It’s really about the amount of work you’re willing to put in and figuring out why IB is for you. Godspeed dude
