I NEED HELP!!!

Hi everyone, so I am a sophomore at Michigan State and I have a 3.75 GPA and I still haven't even applied for any internships for this summer yet. Does anyone have any advice on how I should go about this? I don't have any experience in finance other than a personal account and being a property manager for 30 single-family homes (if that even counts). I hopefully want to get into IB then PE. Any advice will be incredibly helpful. Thank You All

Did you recently realize you wanted to do IB? You definitely should've been applying and interviewing for internships because not having an IB internship makes it LOT harder to break into banking full time.

You should apply to anything and everything related to finance because you need to have an internship this summer, so I think that this is priority number one. IB is over, so look for other things like corp fin, consulting, boutique PE / HF, family investing offices, etc. Hit up connections if you can as well.

Then worry about networking and prepping as much as you can to best prep for full time recruiting. Good luck

Thanks, I know people at Scottrade (soon to be TD Ameritrade) and they said they'll give me an internship but I don't think that will help me at all. I think I'm just scared that I'm not ready and haven't done enough for them to even consider me as a candidate.

What is your major?

  1. It’s late in the game but you’re not out, start applying ASAP and by ASAP I mean right now. Start reaching out everywhere, if you want IB from MSU, you better start creating a Rolodex as well. You’re gonna need it. Have you heard of FMI? You must’ve. Apply and get in, that’ll help ten fold for recruitment. Use Handshake daily, indeed, shoot emails. Find upperclassmen who have landed IB gigs and shoot them an email and see what they say as well. Good luck.

Is there any other kind of ASAP?

Don't listen to these zippy boms. No one will give you an IB job; you gotta take it. Start pounding the pavement and learn to not take no for an answer.

My son is in a completely different industry, but he has been interning all summer. His internship ends in about 2 weeks, which I think many others do as well. Perhaps finance is different, and his gf is in accounting and will be interning while in school, but if you haven't gotten an internship by now, I just don't see it. Doesn't school still start back around Aug 20 - 25?
