IB easier in summer?

Hi pals

I’m a burnt out first year - does IB get more chill during the summer (summer fridays, MDs wanting to leave earlier, summer interns, etc)?

also, does second year get better / easier because the first years are there?

Need something to look forward to.

1. Summer def gets better. Lot of seniors also take holidays so that almost always means that there’s less work from them and less turns.

2. I wouldn’t say so. Lot of the to-be 3rd year analysts and some 2’d years start dipping out for exits and the 1st years aren’t really ready or prepared for the grunt so if anything  the workload increases for 2nd years

probably the second half of second year is the only time you can ‘coast’ somewhat but that’s more the function of being good

Not this summer. MDs are unlikely to have the usual week or two vacation planned and most interns are virtual (very little help). The next 3-4 months will be rough with second years leaving and deal flow still quite strong.

Second year is better but the incoming first year class are all starting from scratch and will take longer to ramp up

Burned out? What kind of place are you at -- NYC, BB? Also, have seniors at your place made any attempt at better WLB since GS 13 piece came out?

1. Summer gets better, except during covid era. Since there are still meetings and deals to be done via Zoom. Last summer was horrible.

2. Depends. Our group we openly communicate that we are leaving early. Team is open about recruiting and people leaving, but still expect you to work pretty hard maybe until the last month, when you start to roll off your accounts and deals.

For me, having first years starting virtual didn't make my life easier as a second year because it took them a long time to ramp up (not their fault at all). Hopefully this will be better if people starts to go in the office come this fall
