ICAP broker London grad role info - comp/work/etc
Been invited to an ICAP (broker grad role) telephone interview but currently not so sure about pursuing it after reading over some of the glassdoor reviews.
What's the work/comp like at ICAP? Has anyone worked there before?
Any input would be great!

I'll keep this short and to the point. Since all the big banks are downsizing front office positions and cutting IB analyst programs , the chances of landing one and the security of these jobs are slim to none . Is this the same type of deal for inter-broker dealers like ICAP and its fellow competitors GFI, Tullet Prebon, BGC? It seems like the OTC markets do pretty well thoughts? I would like to hear what anyone has to offer, thanks for the help. I am familiar with ICAP but would like some more information/advice about them and their competitors career latter.
Does anyone know what kind of opportunities there are at places like ICAP for a solid career?
what is the salary comp like , does it cap at some point, can u make out like a bandit?
ANY Chances of Exit opps to private banking, hedge funds, investment banking, Asset Management, or any other finance related position ,specifically front office roles at banks?
Do young entry level traders have chances to move to higher/to other trading groups (e.g. bond trading, or derivatives trading)?
Entertaining Clients?Lots of travel? Do you need to learn how to golf at this type of place as well?
I assume most of them have great work days, leaving shortly after the closing bell.

Once you get in, you're essentially a small business within the firm. Say you spend ten years building your client list to generate X amount of business, you're not looking to switch over to consulting or banking after investing that much into it. There is no set analyst/associate/vp/md/partner path...you're a broker and retire as one or you didn't make it. High risk/high reward career so it's definitely not for everyone. It's even more so difficult today with increased regulation, technology, and consolidation in the industry.
Exit opps depend on the desk. Anything related to financial sales (sales desks, hedge fund sales, pwm) is quite possible but isn't that common. IDB to trading is not realistic.

What are the salaries like for first / second years?
You're looking at it the wrong way if you're worried about the first two years. It all depends on the desk and how quick you get accounts that trade with you. With that said, I would say 50k base plus bonus.
not trying to take over the thread, but if anyone has information about the post trade risk services (salary, hours, etc), please elaborate as well

Hi everyone,
I've been reading a lot about inter-dealer broking (probably better suited to trader forum but seems a bit quiet there!)
Does anyone have any friends working in that arena, (firms like icap), or know much about it?
The general impression i've got from others is that you can make a lot of money but no intellectual stimulation.
Looking for info on exit ops, day to day tasks, money, whether it would be an interesting option for a full career or would become a bit boring?

i deal with brokers. seems like a decent job. very salesy. you are always entertaining which can be fun, but also tiring. not as smart as the s&t counterparts in general. but you can definitely get paid.

seems like not a bad life if you're prepared to sacrifice the intellectual stimulation you may be able to find in s&t!

It doesn't... Compare with Vitol and Glencore, that is.
icap is an interdealer broker...not knocking it and you can make money there, but it is not like a glencore which in the commodity world is a huge buy side business.
