If I work remotely for over 6 months in California but the firm is a New York based company, will there be an income tax issue?
Currently working for a firm that is based in New York with no locations in California. If I work remotely in California past the 6 month mark, will I owe taxes to California? And will the company face any issues?
If your employer is based in New York the state of NY will charge you the full state income tax.
Some states provide a partial credit to offset this - and would note CT/NJ are currently suing NY to get this clearly unconstitutional tax policy struck down in the SC. Who knows if they follow through with it.
But would California charge me an additional set of income tax?
seeing that it's California we're talking about, I wouldn't surprised
