INTERNAL AUDIT OR FINANCE

I'm applying to GS, MS, JPM, & BlackRock for their Internal Audit & Finance divisions. I am a junior Finance major with a 3.4 GPA (yes, I'm aware that my GPA isn't great). I can't really decide which division I would prefer. What can you share about bonuses, room for growth, and work hours in these divisions? Also, which of these firms do you think would be best for these 2 divisions? Thanks!

Because this board is generally for people interested in high-level finance...

Do you have any idea what the firms you listed do? Do you have any idea what the actual job function would be that you are applying for?

Here's why he's asking - if a hundred people read the title of your post, I cannot imagine a single one said "Internal Audit!" People can make good careers there, I personally know people who really like IA, but as a headhunter once told me, "IA is where careers go to die." If all I know about you is that you're a finance major, and you're asking this on a finance oriented forum, I have enough info to believe you should pursue finance.

Background: I'm an accountant who spent way, way too long in audit. Don't do accounting or audit as a "safety job," if you want finance then pursue it.

Love to help, but could use some more detail about the finance role.

Audit will kill your soul.

But in all seriousness take the audit offer and still recruit for banking. If you get a banking offer take it and renege the big4 offer (if banking is ultimately what you want to do). My story is non target -> big4 intern -> big4 audit -> IB. So I have seen both sides and understand where you are coming from. Let me know if you have any other questions and I ll answer them honestly

thanks for the response! haha yeah ive heard quite a bit about audit and am really unsure about it tbh. what about audit made you make the switch to banking? also how was the recruiting process/how did you make yourself stand out from people with prior banking experience? also how did your audit and banking experiences compare? sometimes i feel like banking could potentially be even worse than audit? sorry for all the questions haha

also im kind of scared to renege on an offer? im scared that maybe in the future, i might want to go back to that company/possibly do a different service line and reneging now would prevent me from doing so?
