Interviewing in another city as a full time analyst

For those of you who were able to get a job in another town while working as a banking analyst full time, how did you manage to do it?

Currently in IB at a satellite office and am looking to lateral to NY, but have no idea how I would find the time to interview. I heard of multiple people that have been able to do this though, did they just take a week of vacation time and then go and interview?

I was able to do this successfully back when I was an analyst. You will undoubtedly have to use vacation days, but hopefully your deal teams will be accommodating. Two things made it work for me:

1) Day trips. You should be used to making day trips as a banker at this stage. Take the first flight out in the morning and catch a flight back in the evening. You should only really need to go through one set of onsite interviews per company that you're interviewing with. Maybe two if it comes down to the later stages.

2) If your company has an office in NYC, see if they can set you up for the evening. I was interviewing in Boston and my company had a Boston office, so I interviewed during the day and worked out of that office at night on two occasions when I had immediate deadlines. I even pulled an all-nighter in the Boston office and flew out the next morning, which saved me from having to get a hotel room (though I would have preferred the hotel room).
