Interviews With Recruiter, But Not Solo?? What!?

Hey guys, first time poster here. And I have a situation for you --

I recently graduated with my MBA and have just started to seriously job hunt. A recruiter sent me two jobs that I really liked and was able to get interviews with two great firms. Sadly, nothing came of it.

Now, I have applied individually to several other banks for virtually identical jobs, and have not heard back from them. Was my recruiter the reason I was able to land an interview? And if so, what can I do to help myself get an interview? I'm experienced enough to get the interview (otherwise how could I get them with the recruiter), so why haven't they called?

Any help on this would be appreciated. This job hunting thing is not what you want...
