Is Finance worth it anymore?
I'm a student at a HYPSM school studying computer science. I'm wondering--is finance even worth it anymore? Based on the salaries and the amount of hours you're working, banking and even PE doesn't seem worth it. My most talented friends are all in tech, doing incredible things, starting companies--really changing the world type of stuff. The only people I know doing remotely finance-related stuff are quants. I have some interest in finance, but tech seems so much better in almost every way. Maybe going down the 'golden path' and ending up at some HF would be nice but even then, is it worth it? You only live once, do I want to spend my life being a financier or creating something in this world. Even if I was purely salary motivated, hot startups with equity allocations will probably outpace finance. It seems like finance's golden days were before 2008. Mark Andreesen has this quote about 'tech eating the world' and it seems like its going to come true. If you're a young person who wants to be successful and do something in this world, is tech not where you want to be? Thoughts?
No
lol what? you think startups are still making droves of people rich? i think you should do some more research before you make any big career decisions lmao
