Is it all bad?

Incoming first year anxious about what I signed up for. Is the analyst stint truly as bad as it's made out to be and is your first year usually just a wash outside of work? Is there usually some downtime to at least lead a life on the weekends + still see friends/family regularly just not during the week? Do Analysts have it easier now than they did pre-pandemic?

Yeah it’s pretty brutal. You should have some weekend time (Friday nights are usually quieter) but overall your first year you pretty much can’t make any plans.

Banking got way worse for analysts during the pandemic. Combination of remote work plus being super busy pretty much crushed everyone. May be easing a bit now that banks are back in person and deal flow has slowed.

Wrapping up my first year and yea it’s pretty bad. It’s impossible to make evening plans Monday to Thursday, but you probably can do stuff Friday night and Sat. Sunday was basically a work day too.

Biggest problem for me first few months was being able to work while only sleeping 5-6 hours a night

What did your hours typically look like on a Mon-Sunday basis? We’re you doing 9-2am type stuff and was it a pretty standard banking group or maybe more sweaty than normal?

Is it possible to slide under the radar as a first year and work 60 hours a week even if it means bottom bucket?
